Elgin Holiday Tree Lighting Events December 1

The holidays will kick off in downtown Elgin on Saturday, December 1 with the annual City of Elgin Tree Lighting Ceremony, and a day full of family fun. Events start at the Civic Plaza and continue throughout the season with great holiday entertainment at Hemmens Cultural Center and Elgin Art Showcase.

Events begin at noon with free skate rental at City Skate, located on the Civic Plaza next to the Hemmens Cultural Center. Zombie Defense Initiative Update - Threat level increased to 'Severe'

The Zombie Defense Initiative (Z.D.I.) has increased the official threat level to "Severe", meaning that the group now considers Elgin under severe risk of zombie attack. This is the highest threat level since hoards of undead attacked the city in October 2011 and some fear this signifies a second wave of attacks.

A Z.D.I. spokesperson said, "our analysts are predicting the peak of zombie activity will occur on Saturday October 27th between 6pm and 11pm. It is too late for us to ensure the safety of the whole City and we strongly recommend that citizens evacuate to downtown Elgin… Full Story
