A lot has been made of the emasculation of the American male. Comedians have done shows on it, pundits have preached about it and entire movies have been dedicated to it. I would put links here, but none of them are safe for work. However, for every action, there is a reaction. Manifesting itself every day is a strange undertow to American male culture: the "manliness" factor. Things that have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on actual masculinity are deemed "manly," while others are quite the opposite. Day in and day out, we men slog across this minefield of bizarre expectations, bombarded by ridiculous posturing, asinine rules and outdated regulations. Here are four of the most prevalent. 1. Men know cars. This one has been around since the invention of the automobile. Understandable, since the first automobile industry workers and mechanics were men, and most modern mechanics still have a Y chromosome. So I get where it comes from. But take a survey of 100 men you know. Ask three simple questions: Do you like cars? Do you know how to change a tire? Do you know how to change your own oil? My guess is that most will answer yes…
