The new student member of the Community College District 509 Board of Trustees, Dustin Good, prefers getting active in his community over sitting on the sidelines. He wants Elgin Community College students to follow his lead.
“I want to see students become more involved,” says Good, of Elgin. That means students participating in board meetings, advocating for programs important to them, and voting in elections.
ECC students elected Good to serve a one-year term as student trustee through April 2012. He was hesitant to run at first but was encouraged after observing the board’s negotiations with the ECC faculty union. He also wanted first-hand knowledge in how the board functions.
Good plans to enroll in the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study agriculture and landscape design after graduating from ECC.
