Thumbnail imageRavenheart Coffee is a friendly neighborhood coffee shop at the corner of Chicago Street and Spring Street in downtown Elgin. Just a couple years ago Ravenheart opened its doors to Elgin and has gained a loyal following ever since. Under new management, they recently expanded their menu to include light bites for breakfast and lunch in addition to their tasty coffee delights.

There are plenty of beverage options to choose from and some special seasonal items that sound absolutely delicious. Recently, the specials sign listed a Midnight Cookie Latte, a Peppermint Satin Mocha and a Gingerbread Latte, just to name a few. Combine a fantastic latte with a Danish, a muffin or maybe an espresso bar and you’ve got my kind of afternoon treat.

Ravenheart has a really nice atmosphere with a wall of windows overlooking Chicago Street and plenty of comfortable round tables to sip a hot coffee and chat with friends. They even have some board games to enjoy and have recently started hosting open mic night on Friday nights. Open Mic Friday’s is brand new to Ravenheart just starting up earlier in December. The first few Open Mic Friday’s were hosted by Dave Hudson, a local film maker and music man, and featured some fantastic local singers and musicians. Check with Ravenheart to confirm dates and times of Open Mic night in 2011.

Aside from high-quality coffee, a relaxing atmosphere and friendly service, Ravenheart also offers some delicious new menu items for breakfast and lunch. They feature a couple breakfast sandwiches as well as bagels, yogurt cups and the popular Grandma’s Hot Oatmeal which is a warm bowl of hot oatmeal topped with brown sugar, cranraisins and crushed almonds or ground flax seed. For lunch they offer a nice variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. Choose from seven sandwiches all served with homemade cole slaw, chips or some healthy baby carrots.

Ravenheart had something for everyone, even if you don’t drink coffee you can still find something here you’ll love. They’ve got great hot chocolate and apple cider, Stash premium tea, iced tea and non-coffee glaciers in flavors such as strawberries and cream, pina colada and creamsicle. They sell a variety of bulk coffee beans by the pound, Torani syrups, Stash tea and even fresh made bread from Breadsmith. With their new food menu and consistently delicious coffee, Ravenheart will surely be a favorite Elgin coffee shop for years to come.
