Award-winning author Candy Dawson Boyd, Broadway dancer Reginald McLaughlin and professional storyteller Linda Gorham were among the scheduled speakers this year. The culinary experts at Elgin Community College will provide sweet-potato pie bites.
Since 2005, the festival has worked to bring families together for an enriching event that promotes education and literacy in addition to engaging all participants with a diverse, interactive, and entertaining program celebrating the African-American culture. This year’s theme was African-American Firsts: Black Americans Who Have Shaped Our Country.
