Elgin detectives arrested an 18-year-old Elgin man in Chicago on Tuesday in connection with last week’s strong-arm robbery of a younger teenager who was thrown to the ground during the theft of an iPhone and headphones on the city's East Side.
Jahmarian Quintana, of the 300 block of Douglas Avenue, was charged with one felony count of robbery and one felony count of theft.
Police said that at about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 27, a 15-year-old Elgin resident was walking in the area of St. John and Algona streets when Quintana confronted him. Police said a struggle began when Quintana began to take a set of headphones and an iPhone from the victim, who was thrown to the ground. Quintana fled the scene with the items. The victim was not seriously injured.
Police investigating the robbery identified Quintana as a suspect and arrested him in Chicago.
Quintana appeared in bond call Wednesday morning where he was ordered held in the Kane County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
