Twelve-year-old Diana Lopez, of Elgin, was injured yesterday after she was struck by a car on Monday night as she attempted to cross six lanes of traffic on State Street.

Police continue to investigate the accident but believe that a 2007 BMW X3 driven by 76-year-old Richard Nemec of the 100 block of Thorobred Lane in Sleepy Hollow, was northbound on State Street at about 7 p.m. through the green light when it struck Lopez.  Lopez was attempting to cross State Street from the south east corner.

Lopez was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital for significant injuries and was then transferred to Lutheran General for further treatment.

Kimball and State streets were closed for over two hours while police worked the scene.  No charges or citations are anticipated, however, police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 1-847-289-2700.
