The Elgin City Council will convene in a special Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 31, to learn about Bowes Creek Golf Course and for a broader-ranging discussion of the city’s golf division and its finances.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Bowes Creek golf course.
“The main purpose of the meeting is to get the council members out to Bowes Creek Country Club and show them around the facility,” Elgin Park and Recreation Director Randy Reopelle wrote in an email to BocaJump on Monday. “Much of the time will be spent driving them around in the golf cars and showing the outside amenities to them. Many of them are non-golfers, so we will be spending time explaining the history of golf courses in Elgin, as well as the golf industry in general to them.”
The meeting’s agenda shows the tour looking at the golf course, the learning center, maintenance facility, and the clubhouse.
“At the end we will provide them with an update on the golf fund finances, which the Finance Department is still pulling together for us,” Reopelle said. “The meeting really has nothing to do with the budget — more just an introduction to the facility and golf industry.”
